The Stony Brook site is designed for expansion

The site for Unit 3 is MMWEC's Stony Brook Energy Center in Ludlow, Massachusetts, which is home to an existing 527-megawatt power plant. In addition to benefiting from MMWEC's professional engineering and management staff, the site already has infrastructure in place that will support the new unit while mitigating environmental and community concerns.

From logistics and engineering to personnel and financing, we have a clear vision for bringing the additional unit on-line. These synergies include:

  • natural gas pipeline
  • water pipeline
  • oil pipeline
  • storage tanks
  • transmission facilities
  • environmental impact mitigation

Natural Gas Transportation - MMWEC and Columbia Gas of Massachusetts, the local natural gas distribution company, have developed a plan to ensure that adequate supplies of natural gas can be delivered to the Stony Brook site without limiting operation of the new or existing Stony Brook units. MMWEC also is assessing other gas transportation strategies.

Electric Transmission - Stony Brook 3 can connect to the area's existing transmission network with limited on-site work and some modifications at an existing substation.
